CORGI v The Gas Safe Register

Many people ask us what the difference between CORGI and the Gas Safe Register is. The answer is quite simply nothing  – in April 2009 the CORGI Register became the Gas Safe Register.

The CORGI register operated for 17 years so everyone remembers the CORGI gas man but this registration is no longer what you need to look for when you have gas work carried out. Recently the contract to run the register was given to a different body  and the name changed.

Nicola Howell, Solicitor, states "The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations put a responsibility on enforcement authorities to maintain a register to monitor the competency of  businesses and engineers undertaking gas work,  and to investigate complaints against registered engineers. This responsibility has not changed, it's simply a new company managing the register".

Along with the change of name, new ID cards for gas engineers have been issued.  These have a photograph, a hologram and specific licence details for that person on the front. The back of the card says what that person is or is not qualified to do.

Aura Gas is registered as a business on the register and of course all our gas engineers are registered individually - check Aura Gas' Gas Safe registration details.

All our Aura Gas engineers will be happy to show you their card anytime.

Always check their gas safe ID card.

All gas work is different and the back of the ID card tells you if they’re qualified for the specific job you need them to do.
