| Q | My boiler shows that I have no pressure in the system but I can hear the water filling it when I turn the valve on. What could it be? |
| A | Sounds like the pressure gauge is blocked, you will need a qualified engineer to remove and unblock the gauge. This should be possible but it may need to be replaced. |
| Q | I have notice my boiler has been very noisy for a couple of weeks and now it has stopped completely. It sounded like an aeroplane what could it be? |
| A | Sounds like the fan, you will need a qualified engineer to replace it. |
| Q | I have a Worcester Bosch boiler and have lost the key the installer gave me to fill it up, what can I do? |
| A | Unfortunately, you will need to buy another one. Search it on the internet and that should be the cheapest way. |
| Q | If I take a radiator off for decorating do I need to cap the pipes? |
| A | If the radiator has a TRV ( Thermostatic Radiator Valve) you will need to cap it as the valve may leak over night if the room temperature falls. |
| Q | My oven is burning with a very yellow flame. Is this still ok? |
| A | If the oven burns in a ‘candle like’ way I would suggest you immediately stop using it and get a qualified engineer to check it. |
| Q | Can I paint my radiators? |
| A | You can but I would advise against this. They never look the same afterwards so I would just use a strong cleaner to bring them back to new. |
| Q | I have been given a wood burner that has been professionally converted for mains gas and has been successfully used by my friend. I wish to use it but want to connect it to a butane cylinder. I have tried this out and it works fine. However I thought I should ask an expert as to safety considerations. What do you think? |
| A | It would be extremely hard to comment on this as there are many factors affecting your situation. I would suggest that you contact a competent Gas Engineer who can visit you and advise you on the requirements for the heater. |
| Q | How often should I clean the filter on my heating system ? |
| A | We would recommend around 1 month after the installation and then leave it to be cleaned out when it is serviced annually. |
| Q | If a gas engineer was previously Corgi registered is he automatically Gas Safe registered now ? |
| A | There is no automatic change from CORGI registration to the Gas Safe Register. The qualifications needed to be upheld so that the new register could check you and add you to the database. |
| Q | If a gas engineer says he is Corgi registered, is this still valid or does he have to be Gas Safe Registered now ? |
| A | CORGI are no longer the gas watchdog so any operative working on Gas needs to be registered with the GAS SAFE REGISTER. |
| Q | I am having trouble with my Baxi boiler pilot light going out. |
| A | Perhaps the pilot needs cleaning out or if that doesn't cure it then a new thermocouple would be required. |
